Cold here in East Texas

I have learned to not trust two professions when they speak, used car dealers and weather forecasters. We prepare for the forecast of severe winter weather, make our trek to the local  grocery store and fight the other frantic shoppers for the last loaf of bread. We stop at the price  gouging gas station for  fuel  to feed the  generator  and  replenish  our wood pile for the fire place so we can kick back in front of the fireplace with "Mr Jack Black".

We end up with a tank of gas, pile of wood that we have to move this spring and drunk. I think the weatherman and the  grocery stores have a  conspiracy! They predict severe weather and split down the profits, however, the Jack Black was good.

Photos; Elk Rut bulls

Early Morning in the valley

The elk rut of 2013 is gearing up in the Boxly Valley , these photos of  the "Junk Yard Dog" were made in the second week of October. In these photos he is scraping his horns on the  bushes and charging them. He stops often to  bugle and check on his herd he is gathering.

Eyes of the Wild

Some places and moments you never forget.
This photograph was taken at Ponca, Arkansas in the fall. I remember the excitement and the  piercing stare once he heard the first shutter close and then the second shot (this photo). He was accompanied by three females and one was bobtail. A special time and place for me.

Photos:Winter 2012

Looking forward to winter 2013
These photographs were made in Southwest Arkansas the day after Christmas 2012. This is unusual for South Arkansas and East Texas.

"Working the Garden"

The day before the rain the bumblebees swarmed the wildflower gardens.

"Swarms of Beauty"

I never tire of the beauty of these flying gardens, they seem to change species throughout the day.

Fall Has Arrived

I look forward to the changing seasons and a new set of critters to photograph, however, it has an air of sadness also. The  Butterfly,Mississippi Kites and Hummingbirds are  preparing or have already departed for the warmer locations. The leaves are starting to show a little color and soon the eagles will start to arrive. This means I will start to travel north while the critters go south.
